Adagio Vineyards Profile

 Written by Brian—Apr 21, 2018

Doctors Tim and Jan Wahl dedicated a significant part of their lives to passion projects. For Jan, who is also a classically-trained violinist, it was the art and science of making violins. For Tim, it was a winery and the making of wine. The word "adagio" means to play music slowly and with passion and at Adagio Vineyards, near Elkin, North Carolina, their two artful pursuits slowly and gracefully collide.

The 44-acre property that abuts Grassy Creek is now home to the Adagio winemaking operation. Six acres are devoted to vines that are supplemented by some other local fruit to produce between 1500 and 2000 cases annually. All of Tim Wahl's wines that are poured in the tasting room are well-crafted and approachable.

Even before entering the tasting room, the musical influence is obvious. The logo on the signage and the chalk board announcing the schedule of violin duets are two of the immediate cues. Once inside the wine and music themes continue to mingle.

Adagio Vineyards is certainly a lovely, well-appointed venue. The musical themes certainly make it unique and the wines are worth stopping in and exploring more throughly. The proximity to other great NC wineries makes this winery and obvious stop. So after you drop in, I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts.
