OBX Winery Profile
Written by Brian—Sep 6, 2019
There is only one winery located on North Carolina’s Outer Banks and that is the appropriately named OBX Winery. It is an urban, micro-winery that is allowed on the outer banks only because production methods are extremely environmentally friendly.
Since 2013, co-owners Lorraine, Duncan and John have been making wine from sourced juice in a space behind their tasting room in Kill Devil Hills.
As of this writing, the OBX team is producing about 800 cases of wine annually. Best sellers include the OBX Pinot Grigio and “Mellow”—a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Another wine to look out for is a Pinot Noir and black cherry blend that is intended for pairing with chocolate and is very popular with the clientele.
Future plans call for expanding into a series of similar micro wineries and possibly assuming a consulting role. In the meantime, OBX Winery is open for business and the winemaking team is waiting for you to stop in. After you do, please let me know what you think.
